Trail Review: Sky Meadows (winter)

1sky.jpg

This 1,864 acre park is on RT 17 in Delaplane, VA. There is a $8 per trailer fee. Parking is ample for 15+ trailers in a paved lot. There is a Port-a-Jon and a pitch fork to clean up your manure (always clean up!). There are almost 10 miles of bridle trails, with a brand new additional 3.75 miles across the street, which we did not explore. Be sure to grab a map at the entrance, so you do not miss any of the trails. The trails are well marked, rolling meadows, a few very small creek crossings and slightly rocky trails going up over the mountain, shoes/boots recommended. The views from the top of the mountain are outstanding. The ground was frozen and icy in alot of places along most of the meadows, but the mountain climb was terrific. There are not alot of hard pulls up the mountain, most of the trails were fine for a horse that is moderately fit. Only 30 minutes from Warrenton, I highly recommend Sky Meadows for the views and well maintained trails.
